Car rental for delivery and rideshare
Stop putting delivery miles on your own car.
Shift rents small, efficient cars by the day, the week or the month to people who drive for DoorDash, Spark, Flex, Uber and the rest. Flat rate, no mileage charge, maintenance handled. Your car stays in the driveway holding its value.
Nothing is charged to make a request, and nothing is held until a person has confirmed the car, the pickup and the rate with you in writing.

Why rent at all
The part nobody prices in
A hundred miles a day, six days a week, is 31,200 miles a year on a car you own. That is a set of tires, two brake jobs, the oil changes in between, and several thousand dollars off what your car is worth when you go to sell it. The delivery apps pay you the same either way.
Shift is the other option. Run the miles on a cheap car built to absorb them, hand back the maintenance bill with it, and keep your own car for your own life.

Rough service intervals for a compact car at that mileage, not a quote. Your own numbers depend on the car and how you drive it.
How it works
Four steps to keys
01
Request a car
Pick a class and tell us your ZIP, your apps and when you want it. No card, no charge, no credit check.
02
We confirm
A person checks your licence and driving record, and tells you which car is available near you and what it costs.
03
Sign and collect
You get the rental agreement in writing before you sign it. Everything due at pickup is in that document, in numbers.
04
Drive and return
Run your shifts. Bring it back at the end of the term, or extend it. Maintenance is ours to sort while you have it.
What you get
The car, and what comes with it
The car
Small, efficient and unremarkable. It is not a nice car and that is the point: it exists to do this job and to be cheap to run while it does.
The rate
Flat, published above, and fixed for the length of your booking. No mileage cap and no per-mile charge. Fuel or charging is on you.
Upkeep
Scheduled maintenance, tires, brakes and cleaning are ours. Something goes wrong mechanically, you tell us and we deal with it.
The terms
A rental, not a lease. No credit check, no multi-year commitment, and no rent to own dressed up as a rental.
Every car is tracked, and we say so
Fleet vehicles carry GPS and a starter immobilizer. The immobilizer interrupts the starter circuit only — it can stop a parked car being started, and it has no effect whatsoever on a car that is running or moving. We will not fit a system that can. It is how a small operator can hand a car to someone it has never met, and it is written into the rental agreement rather than hidden in it.
Coverage
Where we operate
Markets are listed here as they open. Put in a reservation request and we will come to you when there is a car near you.
Somewhere else? Ask anyway. We put cars where the requests are, so the requests that come in are what decide the next market on this list.
Requirements
What it takes to rent from us
You need
- A valid driver's licence, held in your own name.
- To be at least 21. That is the insurer's floor, not ours.
- A driving record clean enough to pass a standard check.
- An active account on at least one delivery or rideshare app.
This is not for you if
- You want a personal daily driver. These go out for courier work only.
- You are looking for rent to own. We do not offer it.
- You do not drive for a delivery or rideshare app yet.
Eligibility and insurance are settled with you before pickup, in writing, and never on this page. Submitting a request is not an application and approves nothing.
Questions
The awkward ones, answered
Is insurance included in the rate?
Yes. Every Shift vehicle carries commercial cover for the whole time it is with you, and the policy and its limits are confirmed with you in writing before pickup.
Is there a mileage limit?
No cap and no per-mile charge. The whole point of the car is that it takes the miles, and a mileage cap on a delivery rental is a way of charging you twice for the thing you rented it to do.
Do you run a credit check?
No. We check your licence and your driving record, because those are the things that predict whether a car comes back in one piece. A credit score does not.
What do I pay, and when?
The published daily rate for the class and length you pick, and nothing at all for making a request. Anything due at pickup — a deposit, the first period, a hold — is set out in the rental agreement you read and sign before keys change hands. If a number is not in that document, you do not owe it.
Can I use it for personal driving?
These vehicles go out for delivery and rideshare work. What counts as permitted use, and who else may drive the car, is set out in the rental agreement — ask us before you assume, rather than after.
What happens if it breaks down?
Mechanical upkeep is ours. Scheduled servicing, tires, brakes and repairs are in the rate, so a fault is our bill and not yours — you tell us and we deal with it. Damage you cause is a different thing and is handled under the rental agreement.
Who pays for fuel, tolls and tickets?
You do. Fuel or charging, tolls, parking and any citation issued while you have the car are the renter's. That is the normal arrangement everywhere and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Is the car tracked?
Yes, and we would rather you read it here than find it under the dash. Every fleet car has GPS and a starter immobilizer. The immobilizer breaks the starter circuit only: it can stop a parked car from being started and it cannot do anything to a car that is running or moving.
Is this rent to own?
No. It is a rental by the day, the week or the month, with no balloon at the end and no equity building up. If you want to own a car, buy one — this is for keeping the miles off the one you already have.
Who is behind Shift?
Shift is operated by Scripty Solutions LLC, a Virginia company, and the first market is in Virginia. It is a small operation rather than a national chain, which is why the cars are boring and the rate card is short.

Own a car that sits idle?
The cars on this page come from people who had one spare. Put yours on the fleet and it earns a share of what it rents for while we handle the renter, the billing and the upkeep.
